Families and Friends Hurting as Loved Ones Graduate
This evening it is with great sorrow that I inform you that we had 3 deaths affect our church family today. The past couple of weeks have been full of late night/all night visits as we tried to minister to so many different ones and I haven’t done a real good job keeping everyone updated on the blog.
Early this afternoon, Mrs. Barbara “Janice” Fleming went to be with the Lord. She had been taken back to her home in Covington last night after being hospitalized for nearly two weeks, daughters, sister and other family members staying by her bedside 24/7. The family is grateful for all the prayer and support they have received during this time. Unless something changes, her visitation will be Thursday from 5-9 PM at the Caldwell & Cowan Funeral Home at 1215 Access Road, Covington, GA. Her service will be held at Victory Baptist Church at 2 PM on Friday afternoon. (88 Brand Road, Loganville, GA 30052) Please continue praying for the family.
Around 8:30 PM, Rev. James Kelley also passed away with wife, sons and daughters in laws and other family members surrounding his bedside at Emory University here in Decatur. Pastor Kelley has been married to his wife, Mrs. Judy, for 48 years and he has been in the ministry for 47 years, most recently pastoring the Fellowship Baptist Church in Greenwood, SC. All of the service times have not been set, but I do think his service will be at the old Philadelphia Baptist Church location in Conyers, GA sometime on Saturday. I will post details as they are defined. Again, please be in prayer for the Kelley family tonight and in the morning as they inform some of the younger grandchildren…it will be very difficult as you might imagine.
Then, around 9 PM, Mr. Rusty Horne, Bro. Boyd Reimer’s brother in law also passed away at the Hospice Center in Snellville, GA. He was a relatively young man at 38 years old and this will be a very difficult time for his wife and children. The wonderful thing was that he was recently saved a couple of weeks ago, being led to the Lord by one of our staff men, Bro. Josh Ayers. Bro. Josh had worked with Rusty quite a bit before Rusty got sick and was able to build a relationship with him, which eventually led to his salvation. Service times for Mr. Horne have not been set as of yet, although they too will be at Victory Baptist Church. Please pray for this dear family as well.
Church, we have a lot of work to do in the next few days. Many meals will be need to be prepared, delivered and set up. This is the time where we can “be the church”, so please do as you always do and lend a helping hand. Mrs. Carol Smith will be coordinating all meals and she will appreciate anything you can do. Please contact her through the office at the church and she will let you know what is needed.
Most importantly, please pray for all the services as the Gospel is being preached. We want to make sure we are allowing God to use us during this time to not only honor the loved ones, but to make much of Him as we preach!
